Last week’s trip to the bathroom was TMI. I shocked myself, but I hope I didn't scare you. My own mother said it was exhausting. The queen of the Goop, the voice of the Poog, Kate Berlant got in touch to point out her favorite TEAL MILLION DOLLAR BODY OIL (which was originally gifted to her but she shelled out to buy more.)
I have not been reading as much as I would like to because I currently have the attention span of a cocker spaniel. Instead I’ve been watching countless videos where moms of 5-8 children in unknown corners of America do basic things like take out the trash, pack school lunches, fold laundry or hydrate. At 3am on Tuesday night I wrote this note to myself: How radical it is to monetize momming. Again, I shock myself. May I ask you for short story recommendations, preferably published in compilation?
This week's finds are succinct: BOOKENDS, CUPS & GLASSES, and STRAWS.
One of my best friends flew the coop this week. She joins the ever growing hoard of people who are taking advantage of their ability to leave the US of A. Her departure leaves a void in my heart- one of those moms you could smoke a cigarette with at the park. Anyway, she needs bookends in her new apartment in Berlin and searching for them feels like an excellent way to ignore my grief.
BOOK THIEVES forks and spoons taking books off of the shelves.
CAPTURED COINS LUCITE BLOCKS on my mind.
These emotional FLANKING GREYHOUDS, I keep the head of a dismantled ceramic greyhound statue on my mantle.
Gorgeous HAND CARVED HANDS might be one of the best things I’ve ever found?
Red CENEDESE MURANO GLASS look like cartoon steaks.
CAST IRON JACKS, my grandparents had these in Chicago.
Gentle MIRRORED BURL WOOD would work in most situations.
Pomo BLACK CARBON STEEL sticks could look nice in repetition with many on a book case.
I have a soft spot for PILLS SUSPENDED IN LUCITE. For the kid’s room?
Hand carved ANTHROPOSOPHICAL OAK bookends- not sure what about them is linked to the teachings of Rudolph Stiener or why they’re so pricey but I love these.
Brutalist Italian Fratelli Mannelli TRAVERTINE SEMICIRCLES
Sort of twee but for the POMEGRANATE LOVERS, reminds me of Ottoman embroidery.
GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE HANDRAIL OR ANOTHER CUT OF THE BRIDGE.
The last one led me to discover: GOLDEN GATE DESIGN. This studio is somehow inheriting the butchered leftovers of the original 1930s Golden Gate Bridge and selling little glorious scraps of it; brackets, handrails, beams cut up into into key chains, TIE CLIPS, pendants, paperweights and LAMPS. It all started as a headboard in 1993…
Stemware and mugs are complete other preoccupations in and of themselves.

As we most college educated white women, 10 years ago I was greenwashed into thinking plastic straws were the main event of global warming, while actually only accounting for .0025% of plastic waste… the pendulum is definitely swinging the other way, and for good reason, PAPER STRAWS ARE DISGUSTING (concerning the environmental impact of plastic straws, Trump said, "I don't think that plastic is going to affect the shark very much as they're eating, as they're munching their way through the ocean."... Regardless, I also find plastic straws to be pretty gross too. Here are some weird other options:
CURVY TWISTY THICC TAN GLASS STRAW
PEPPERMINT TWISTIE GLASS

Duralex LE PICARDIE 16 ⅞ OZ TUMBLER for an American size of a French glass.
What I like to call a WEE WILLY WINKY GOWN Ron Herman X Ten Japanese exclusive. There are many more to choose from in the INTIMATES SHOPPE. An original Daphne Javitch sleeper hit that was reintroduced to me by my kid’s magical nursery school teacher.
My first ROTV gift: a very vintage D. Porthault BOIS DE MOIRE BROWN TABLE CLOTH. They no longer make this print in table cloth but do in SHEETS. Supposedly ROTV reader Abbe’s mom had a wild affair with an affluent drug dealer in NYC in the 70s, who bought her this table cloth, I can’t believe it belongs to me now.
My son has these groovy LED Xmas lights under his bed that can make many configurations of light blast around his room. Needless to say, he does not sleep well. I disposed of them after reading Heliotherapist Zaid Dahhaj’s interview on Health Gossip… I’m still choosing to believe in sunscreen.
PS: The title of this letter was derived from Ariana Reines 2008 poem SUN SCREEN.
